Gratitude Journal

May 6, 2008

  1. The cafeteria served chocolate brownies yesterday!  I look for those things every day. LOL
  2. Yesterday our house truly felt like home.  It felt natural to come in and veg on the couch with a slice of pizza and watch tv….like we’ve been doing it all along.
  3. I was reading about not complaining and when I asked myself the question “but what about when  you’re with someone who complains all the time” I had the foresight and understanding to answer myself….”you can only work on you.  If YOU put your money where your mouth is then your situation will alter to reflect reality.”
  4. I got some great pictures from the family birthday dinner Sunday.  I uploaded them yesterday and can not WAIT to scrapbook them!
  5. I wrote a friend a note on some beautiful stationary and it made me happier to send it than it will for them to receive it. LOL

May 7, 2008

  1. I had a perfect makeup day!  I am still loving my Bare Escentuals.  I think this is the best makeup I’ve ever worn.  I’m almost out of moisturizer so I need to remember to pick some up before we go to Tulsa this weekend.
  2. The shoes I bought a couple of weekends ago at Macy’s big sale are too big.  I know I tried them on but when I attempted to wear them to work yesterday I couldn’t even leave the house without them falling off with every step.  There is also a dress that I bought for going out this summer.  The weather is getting nice and I figured we’d be doing some outdoor eating or dancing or something of that nature.  The Mr. hated it. LOL.  Well maybe he didn’t hate it, but when I showed it to him he said “not something I would have picked” and kinda made a face.  LOL.  So it’s going back to.  Why is that a good thing?  REFUNDS BABY!
  3. I’m thankful for big city living.  I heard a while ago that Starbucks had breakfast sandwiches (not in my city though).  Yesterday morning I stopped and there they were.  Although I didn’t get one they looked awfully tasty.  I stuck with my classic tall no whip hot chocolate.  mmm mmm good!
  4. I know I didn’t have much to say in a good way about our house when we got there, but I’m very appreciative of all the potential storage space it has.  Now I just have to make the moves to get everything in the right spots!
  5. I bought some lottery tickets yesterday and some scratch offs.  First of all, it’s just FUN. LOL  But I think that one of my scratch offs won…….but I’m not sure.  It’s a Bingo game and one of the spots says “5 Bonus Numbers”  Does that mean that I get to scratch off 5 bonus numbers?  If it does then I won a little pocket change.  Any scratch off know it alls out there?

May 8, 2008

  1. The best chicken spot in the world is right around the corner from the house.  Yesterday my eyes were bigger than my stomach. LOL
  2. When I think about the friendship me and the mister had before we started dating…..I get the warm fuzzies and shit.
  3. The laptop I’ve been drooling over is finally in stock!!!!
  4. I listened to the Roland S. Martin radio show on the commute to work….first time ever.  I love me some Roland S. Martin!
  5. I had just enough cranberry juice left for one more mixed drink to go with my chicken. :)

  1. MORE BROWNIES IN THE CAFETERIA!!!!!!!
  2. The best and cheapest tuna sandwich around…..tuna with swiss and lettuce on sourdough bread with chips and a pickle = $2.89.
  3. Today I came up with an extensive list of new pastry concepts to try.

May 15, 2008

  1. A free chicken sandwich at McDonald’s for lunch.  It almost made up for missing Chick Fil A!
  2. There is only one box left to unpack in my kitchen/dining nook.  That means I have a completely empty space to scrapbook in.
  3. Last night…
  4. I’m thankful for just being thankful.
  5. I am being blessed with an abundance of books to read that cause me to stir inside and focus on my faith and goals.

May 16 – 18, 2008

  1. The lakefront and beautiful spring weather.
  2. Grocery stores
  3. TURKEY BURGERS!  I made turkey burgers for dinner yesterday with some onions, garlic, and a little creole seasoning in the burger.  Then I topped it with lettuce, tomato, mustard, and cheese.  The only thing missing was pickles!
  4. Craft projects.  I have a list of things I’m going to be working on as soon as I finish getting set up.  I have a lot of catching up to do.
  5. Great movies!  I saw Accepted this weekend and loved it.  It was followed by Knocked Up.  LOVE BABIES.
  6. Having dreams and goals.
  7. A pretty smile.

 May 26 – 28, 2008

  1. I inherited three new nephews when I married into this family and they are HILARIOUS!  They’re familiar with me now….they know me and my truck.  Monday when I pulled up to the house they were outside playing and the 4 year old hollered out “It’s Aunt Diva!” LOL (He used my real name of course).  I felt special. LOL
  2. My mother in law made some banging spaghetti!
  3. I actually got a lot of things done around the house for once (during a weekend).  I still have a long way to go but I feel like progress is being made finally.
  4. I got emails with some of the pictures from this weekend and they just made me smile.
  5. We went bowling and I didn’t come in last!
  6. I chose some really super cute roman shades for the living room and dining room.  Initially the plan was to get bamboo shades….I love bamboo shade.  Then I was in Target and I saw these and fell in love.
  7. I may not have fixed my attitude, but I can definitely recognize when it’s not right more easily.
  8. I downloaded some great music….Klymaxx, Lyfe Jennings, and The Roots.
  9. The weather was absolutely beautiful!
  10. Burker King’s crossandwich is amazing. LOL
  11. I cleaned my ring and it is even more gorgeous than usual when it sparkles.  When I think back to that trip to Vegas, I’m still amazed.
  12. Days go by fast.  I get to work at 7ish and lunch comes before I know it.
  13. My sister in law is interested in scrapbooking.  Instead of going out, I’ll eventually have crops in my back room or downstairs.  :)

 June 4, 2008

  1. I’m improving my eating habits again…..got to do better.  This morning I’m having water instead of juice (or the dreaded wild cherry Pepsi that’s usually calling my name).
  2. I paid for my breakfast purchase in coins that I got from my piggy bank this morning and the cafeteria manager asked if I wanted to cash in all of my coins because they charge him for rolls of change.  I walked away with $11 in dollar bills. :)
  3. Yesterday Exhausted came over and helped me take out all of the boxes that I had unpacked.  We filled a completely empty dumpster.  This morning I noticed that the pile was much smaller and someone had divided it up into the other dumpster.  My dining room is completely cleared out now (space to scrapbook  YAY!!!!!), I found some candles to go in the holders I had already unpacked, and my craft room has some semblance of NORMAL.  THANKS EXHAUSTED!
  4. I brought a GOOD and nutritional lunch today.  It’s a single serving of chicken and pasta with peas and carrots and broccoli that I had left over from last night’s dinner and a sourdough roll.  The entire meal fit into a tupperware container smaller than the size of my hand.  It’s tasty, healthy, and FREE.  I went to the cafeteria the other day and the options were not only crappy looking but the entree and a small side salad was $3.75.  TRUE….that’s cheap as hell for lunch, but you can get a double cheeseburger from McDonald’s and it’ll at least taste good! LOL  So today I’m eating good and it’s not costing me a dime.  YAY FOR CHEAP!

June 26, 2008

  1. I’ve really been slacking on writing down my thanks….but every day I still make a mental note of them.  Not only that but I’m taking all of the lessons I’m learning and applying them to my life daily.  I’m thankful for those lessons…..my attitude, my way of thinking, my diet, my relationship, etc…
  2. I’m eating at Taco Bell today.  I know that I shouldn’t because I’m slowly easing into eating better and better every day.  But today I need something warm and comforting.  This is the first day I miss Tulsa……and I miss it because I knew all of the spots to go and get comfort food for lunch.  LOL
  3. Our cable and internet was fixed yesterday.  So I’m thankful that we got to enjoy our weekly tradition of watching House of Payne.  LOL
  4. I’m going to my first Taste of Chicago Saturday.  And I get to see Stevie Wonder.  Brown Blogger will be working but I’m hoping he’ll show up before Stevie goes on…..I’ll be saving him a seat.
  5. The Art Institute is free tonight and tomorrow night……I’m thinking of backpacking down there tonight for this new African lecture series they have.
  6. Earlier this week he brought home a pamphlet from AT&T and they have an unlimited family plan that is HALF of what we pay now!  Lord knows I love saving money.

July 18, 2008

  1. I really am thankful for this newsletter that my girlfriend in Cali introduced me to. It is called “Crosswalk:Girlfriends in God“. I signed up to receive it daily and sometimes the message hits home so much that it amazes me. Things I used to worry about….I don’t anymore.
  2. I’m definitely thankful to only be working for half of the day today. I’m leaving the plantation at 11 so that I can start my weekend early.
  3. I’ve been flipping through my Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale catalog for about a week now. The sale starts today so I went online to check out every single little thing and I can honestly say that I didn’t see anything that struck that “must have” cord. My sister in law and I might venture in tomorrow to window shop and people watch…..but I’ll be leaving my wallet in my purse on this one.
  4. I’m going to finally set up the bedroom this weekend. I don’t have any super grand plans for it, but by Monday there will be window treatments, hopefully a rug, fresh linens, art on the walls, and some organization. I have a ton of baskets that I’ve used for storage that I’m not going to put INTO storage. As I clean and organize I’m also going to consolidate.
  5. By hook or crook I’m going to finish getting my “web presence” together for my business TODAY. Yes that means frozen dinners tonight…….we’ll sacrifice a home cooked meal.
  6. My hair may not be clean right now but it’s sooooooooooooo healthy!
  7. I don’t remember what happened right now (damn short term memory) but last night Hassan made me laugh so hard I cried. LOL
  8. Plans for our 2009 family reunion are really coming along. It will be the first one in over 10 years….wait…..over 15 years….at least.
  9. And I finally have confirmations on all of the things for my 2008 Favorite Things list. YAY….be on the look out…..you know it’s time for us anal retentive, type A, planners to start thinking about holiday giving. LOL

August 4, 2008

  1. I drove in the rain and didn’t panic!
  2. I had two great meals.  We went to a diner for lunch and I had a turkey, bacon, and swiss croissant sandwich.  And we’re talking REAL roasted and hand carved turkey here.  For dinner we went to Greek town and now I know why people rave so much over Italian Beef.  I have half of a sandwich left and I brought it to work with me.  :)
  3. I’m making gumbo this week.  Yeah I know it’s hot outside….so what.
  4. I had lunch with Hassan yesterday.
  5. Good music still makes me feel better…….hell, not so good music ain’t always too bad either.

September 4-5, 2008

  1. The season premier of Bones was on last night.  Muy excelente!  I loved seeing Booth and Bones interact in a foreign country but I am super sad that Angela and Hodgins broke up.  :(   Great episode.
  2. I finally got to see the season finale of Desperate Housewives.  I found it on you tube.
  3. It’s raining this week and the temperature is cooling down.  Welcome to fall.
  4. I have a business logo!  I really like it.
  5. I also have my official business blog jumping off.  I’m going to post for a week or so before I start blasting the link off to people.
  6. Gas is under $4 out in the suburbs.
  7. Even though I feel like I’m straying away from working on my attitude….I damn sure recognize that I need to.  That alone is big.

September 21, 2008

  1. Dinner was really good…..there was roasted chicken, dressing, and gravy.  :)   mmm mmm mmm
  2. I talked to Melette for a little while.  That was nice.
  3. It was a productive day in the household.  A fair share of things got done.
  4. The Cowboys won!
  5. I stole an idea from Creole about a daily list and although it’s not working for me yet…..it has the potential to get me on track.  The idea is to make a list at the end of each day (for the next) of five things.  3 things that you HAVE to do, 1 thing for your own improvement and betterment, and 1 thing that makes you smile.

5a. Get official transcript mailed overnight (ALREADY DONE!)
5b. Make event sheet template with new logo.
5c. Finish management section edits of business plan.
5d. Clean kitchen and take out trash (the trash irks the shit out of me just like the dishes do him).
5e. Finish Hill Harper’s book. TJ and I are supposed to be reading it for discussion but I just got it from the library last week. It is so wonderful. I am more pleased with this one than I was his last one…but I also believe I’m biased because this one is geared towards girls.
