What I Want

While watching the move The Women, starring Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Annette Benning, and Jada Pinkett Smith, Meg’s character goes through a touch divorce.  She deals with it by going “away” to a resort.  While she’s there an older woman who has been through her fair share of relationships asks Meg……“what do you want?”

  • I’m from the south.  We do Christmas big in the south babies!  I want big Christmas celebrations in my life.  I want little brown colored angles hanging on my tree and a chocolate sister on top with angel wings and a light in her hands.  I want unique color schemes each year.  I want fabulous paper and ribbons to wrap well thought out gifts for my loved ones.  Several years ago I was in the process of collecting a set of ornaments and figurines called Flakeling Tales (designed by Thomas Blackshear).  The entire collection has since been retired.  After a few years of getting them a piece at a time via ebay and specialty stores in Dallas, the entire set was lost (along with all of my other ornaments and Christmas tree) during the move from Tulsa to Oregon.  The movers say that they have no idea where those boxes ended up but I sincerely think that Ray Earl and Suzy have my little brown babies in their storage shed.  I have found them on sale in Ebay stores again but now tht they are retired the prices are outrageous!  The average figurine costs $75 each.  I doubt that I will ever get the entire collection again, but I still want similar decorations around me for Christmas!  I want snowflakes, tinsel, bells, LIGHTS BABY LIGHTS, and Motown Christmas classics playing in the family room.  I want big Christmas celebrations!
  • I want to learn how and be at peace with styling my hair in its natural state. I am NOT afrotastic and there is nothing I can do about it. :(   SADNESS! LOL  I have a great combination of products (that I am going to blog about later) and I have long since stopped reverting back to wanting a relaxed state of hair.  Now I need to learn how to appropriately style this mop for public consumption. LOL
  • I want to design and plan elaborate and elegant events! I am extremely proud of my portfolio up until this point of my career.  I have been published in four different magazines and featured on local morning news shows in Oklahoma.  I WANT MORE!  I want to be my own boss with my own fabulous design studio where I am free to play amongst flowers, linens, colors, foods, and all other aspects of creativity.  I want to get up every day and go into my own office where I choose what the environment is like.  I want to sit in my office and interact with clients who have open minds and the desire to be amazed….willing to turn over the reigns of control and let go.  I want to have my events featured worldwide.  I want to spend my time creating things that are trendsetting enough to put me in a category of my own.
  • I want good food! I’ve been lucky enough to visit and live places where the food was at its freshest quality.  I was in Miami the first time that I had red snapper and it was heavenly.  I’ve had tilapia the size of my foot!  It was fileted right there on the spot by one of my in-laws.  I love fresh salads, fish, pasta, and good recipes.  I like moist meat and sweet corn on the grill.  I like an old fashioned red velvet cake with pecans in between the layers and a real cream cheese frosting on top.  I like quality cheeses sliced up and on a plate with sweet grapes and apples while I watch television.  I like sweet oranges and plump grapes.  I like perfectly steamed crab legs (wish I knew how to cook them myself), spicy good gumbo, warm and hearty soups and chilis, fresh greens for salads, and pasta covered in something as simple as lemon, garlic, some butter, and plump shrimp.  Mmmmmmmmm
  • I want children. Not just babies that look so cuddly and precious after you bathe em and slather em in smell good stuff.  Nope….I want a family.  I want to be pregnant.  I want to have babies.  I want to help shape them into kids and children and teenagers that I can watch over from a little bit more distance as they grow and become their own adults.  I want to drop them off at college and come back for homecoming with a pan of chicken and a pot of mama’s mixed greens (like my mom and aunt did me).  I want to have crazy baby shots to share with my blog readers and graduation photos to show off how proud I am.  I want children.
  • Oh my goodness I want to live in the south or in a Chicago suburb that’s right outside of the big city noise! The biggest purpose that being in Atlanta has served is making me miss the south.  I could move back to Texas TODAY and be in heaven.  I saw a magnolia tree today and my soul was at ease babies!  There is no better smell in the spring than to pluck a magnolia from a tree just as it comes from its leafy shell and stick it in a cup of water and put it on your dresser.  The aroma that greets you in the morning is sinful!  Magnolia blossoms remind me of home.  Can I plant a magnolia tree in the Chi?  I need to investigate that.  I want a big garden! I love flowers!  I want to have flower beds in my front yard, around the porch, around the mailbox, alongside the driveway…..and vegetables in the back.  I want to open my back door and see tomatoes and greens.  I want to have my spices growing on my window ledge so that I can reach over and pick me off some parsley or cilantro for a fresh salad.
  • I want to travel all over the world! I want to be a tourist in Paris, a shopper in Milan, a peaceful meditating soul in Ghana, a partaker of pleasure in Napa Valley, a foodie in Japan, and a big ass kid in Disney World.  I want to take a vacation every year.  I want to take my kids to Africa and Washington DC and Memphis.  I want to go visit my friends in Dallas and Houston and Portland and Raleigh and New York.  I want to do a spa trip to Arizona and New Mexico.
  • Ahhhhh I want a house to settle in. I once said that you have to be ready for a house before you get a house.  I’m ready now.  I want my own four walls to settle into and make my own.  I have my eye out on a specific neighborhood in Chicago and I KEEP my eyes open for houses back home in Fort Worth (never not know what you can get if you go back home).
  • I want birthday celebrations! I want to feel special and cherished and appreciated on the celebration of the day that I was born.

This is what I want in my life.

Nice vision board. One day I plan to create my own. I’d also like a nice home with beautiful flowers adorning outside.
