Every Sistah Wants It ~ Victor McGlothin

I first fell in love with Victor McGlothin’s writing in September of 2002. I was working part time at a Barnes & Noble. If you’ve ever been to a B&N then you’ll know that they have a section called “Associate Favorites” or in your neck of the woods it may be something like “We Recommend” but the point is that it’s a section where the workers choose a book that they like and write a brief reason why. The book is then offered at a discount for two weeks.

FYI for book lovers: As an associate you could “check out” books at no cost and return them to the store. It was great. Much better than the smelly library books I’m reading.

Diary of a Mistress by Miasha

The title of the book along with my past situation was enough to catch my attention and interest me enough to give this book a chance.  It was absolutely crazy and maddening from day one.  I opened the book expecting to read a story about a wife learning of her husband’s trife indiscretions via his mistress’ diary and the repurcussions that followed.  I have to give the author her respect for not giving away the ending.  We’ve all read books where we can tell what is going to happen by the third chapter.  This wasn’t one of those books.  Although I developed my own opinion early in the book and basically decided that the mistress was lying about some of the things, I had no idea that she wasn’t a mistress at all.

The crazy part?  This woman stalked her gym instructor and created an imaginary relationship in her head.  After being committed to a psychiatric institute for attempting to kill herself (over another married man whose child she was carrying) she was encouraged to start a diary.  She turned that diary into a fictional journal and mailed it to the wife of her obsession; hoping to break apart his relationship with the knowledge she had learned from stalking him and becoming the shoulder for him to cry in.

Yes people…this bitch was crazy as hell.  The book was not stimulating enough in its own right for me to blog about.  So why did I?  Because if you look up this book on amazon.com you will see comments about how ridiculous and unbelievable this book was.  Is it really?  Let me remind you of the astronaut adventure we’ve been talking about for a week now.  Women are freaking flipping!  Remember Amy Fisher???

The closer I got to the end of the story, the more insane the characters became.  The wife became so disturbed by this diary that she attacked her husband and was convicted of attempted murder.  It shook me to my core to realize how crazy both of these women had become.  Not just that, but the same type of thing is happening to women every day…..they are snapping!  So then I became afraid.  What if I had snapped like this?  What if some man had taken me to my last pressure point and I lost it like that?  And this woman wasn’t even in a relationship with this man.  She dreamt it up!  So that means that I don’t just have to worry about my own mental stability.  That means that I can be laying in front of the fireplace one day and hear a knock on the door, answer the knock on the door, and be attacked by some deranged chick who saw my sweetness at work and decided to make him hers.  I’ll say it again……..CHICKS ARE FLIPPING OUT!

Overall Original Diva gives this book 3 out of 5 stars.  The story was original and entertaining.  I couldn’t put it down.
