February 1, 2007…….time sure has gone by fast.  It seems like just yesterday that I was talking to a friend about New Year’s Eve.  I have missed posting.  Even though you saw a new post every day those were pre-typed and published.  I’ve just been sitting back and reading comments.  It didn’t feel normal I’m telling you.  I have all kinds of ramblings going on in my head at the moment.

I want to go back to Chicago for a visit.  When I go for work I don’t get to have as much fun as I do for visits.  In April The Color Purple will be opening in Chicago.  I still would prefer to see it in NY, but that’s just because I want to go back and visit NY too. Actually, I think I just want to take a vacation period. Every trip I’ve taken so far this year has been for business. I want to run to Dallas for the weekend or something. I used to pick up and go to Houston for my weekends away…..won’t be doing that anymore. I’m trying to convince Honest that we need to plan us a girl’s vacation to somewhere dreamy like Curacao or Puerto Rico.

So February is here. There’s Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, the Superbowl, the Academy Awards….so much in such a short month. This month’s Essence magazine has a special Black History Month pullout that is really good.*381 Days: The Montgomery Bus Boycott Story is on display at the DuSable Museum in Chicago beginning February 3rd.*African Vision: The Walt Disney-Tishman African Art Collection is on displayat the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington DC beginning February 15th. 88 pieces from such countries as Nigeria, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are included in the show.*There is a power list included of the most influential African Americans. We’ve already heard these names though…several times. For the unsung heroes, I’d like for everyone to visit TJ’s blog this month. She always has some of the greatest profiles for Black History Month. Check it out.

Valetine’s Day ideas and gift suggestions are popping up all over the place. The wedding business will pick up and on February 15th you can get some great candy for half off. I actually intend to do a Valetine post with music, poetry, and all the works. And if anyone out there is lurking in the shadows wishing that they could be my valentine, speak up! Stop being so shy. Send me an e-card…..something. LOL There was a special on the news last night about selecting the perfect diamond. I won’t be discussing that. The perfect diamond is the one that a man cares enough to give you.
Sidebar: It rubs me wrong when I hear women demand what a ring must look like. Revel in the fact that somebody loves your silly azz enough to buy you a gift in the first place.
There is a really neat chocolatier in Tulsa…..Kokoa. I might add it to the list of gift ideas that I’m working on.

Superbowl Sunday. Is everyone ready? What team are you pulling for? Me? I’m a Tony Dungy fan. I like his demeanor. I would offer to place a bet on the game but the last time I bet on a game I ended up talking about Sonny Redd for entirely too damn long.

On Tuesday’s Oprah, Jennifer Hudson sang her Oscar nominated song, Love You I Do, and announced that she’d be singing it at the Oscars. I am really excited about that. Hopefully Anika will be the one singing her part in Patience as well. No substitutes. Her voice is absolutely incredible. I was invited to an Oscar party. Everyone brings a dish, a completed ballot and $5 for the pot. At the end of the night the person who got the most winners right gets the pot and the one with the fewest right gets her $5 back. Sounds like fun but the party is thrown by the wife of one of my co-workers and all of the other wives will be there. I really don’t like them. REALLY.

Last weekend I began seeing commercials (for the very first time) for this movie Constellation that is being released to limited theaters on Friday. I was interested in seeing it….Billy Dee Williams, Hill Harper, Zoe Saldana, Melissa DeSousa, Gabrielle Union….I saw potential. Well guess what limited meant? Yep….limited to other states besides mine. If it’s playing where any of you live go check it out and come back and report on it please.

Last month I said that I would say something nice about the first commentor to tell me the 4th member of Xscape cause hell I just couldn’t come up with it. Big ups to Southern Gal for coming through for me. Y’all should go check her blog out. Her design is fierce!

I was just saying that I needed a vacation too. I usually take quick getaways but this time I actually need some real time away.

Some women rationalize that since they have to wear the diamond then they should be able to have what they want. To that I say: buy it yourself.

The good ol’ diamond conundrum. The wifey told me to surprise her when I bought hers. So I did. Surprise!!! Luke Cage style! -lol

I’ll be sure to go see when next I make it to DC. I enjoy your posts, btw, especially Tia’s story. Can’t wait for the next one!

February crept up on me too! I’m soooo excited about seeing the Color Purple in Chicago (although I was on a campaign for charitable contributions to get me to NYC)! We were planning to make it a Mother’s Day thing but now my mom and I and some other folks are thinking about going in June.

I saw the Color Purple in NY last May, the show is AWESOME! I reccomend it no matter what city you see it in.

And I agree with you on the ring thing, when in situations where marriage was a possibility I expressed the type of ring that I wanted but it ended there “a want”. Should a relationship get to the point of marriage the ring itself is a symbol not the size of the diamond(s). If I had to I’d joyfully accept a plain silver band like they did way back when.
