I said a while ago that I would be displaying some of my ventures into fictional writing. This is the beginning of a short story that I have. I’m open to all kinds of comments. THANKS.
Tia walked in to her house and pressed the play button on her answering machine. With the 5 messages playing in the background Tia easily zoned out and began daydreaming as she sorted the mail. Until she heard that voice. His voice.
It had been six months since they had spoken and Tia was not happy. Truth be told, she didn’t even realize that she didn’t listen to the message until later that night as she lay in bed. Once she realized that it was him her mind began to race and she had to sit down to settle her shaking knees and nerves. Tia looked at her watch and realized that she didn’t have time to wallow in confusion over his surprise call. She was due to have dinner with her sister and needed to leave in 20 minutes to get there on time. Ever since she’d been pregnant, she wasn’t the timeliest person in the family anymore.
As Tia changed clothes and wiped her face with a cool towel, she called her sister using the speaker phone.
“Why are you calling me from home? You better not be canceling on me. I haven’t seen you in a week.” Tia’s sister had a way of rambling if not stopped.
“He called.”
“Who is he?”
“David”
Her sister gave an exasperated sigh and settled in, knowing that this conversation would take precedence over their scheduled dinner. “And who exactly is David sis?”
“Remember how I told you that I became pregnant using a donor? Well what I left out was that the donor is David.” Tia’s sister had assumed that her donor was anonymous and selected from a catalog. She was embarrassed to admit to her that her pregnancy was the result of a relationship gone wrong. The problem now would be coming up with a story to disguise the truth about what really happened between her and David.
Not only did she have to think of something but she had to do it fast. Did she really want to tell her sister what happened six months earlier and why she would never tell anyone else about David.
