We are all aware of the motto “Forgive and forget.” In this day and age it has been adapted to include forgive but never forget. The reason you never forget is that whatever that person did that they need forgiving for….that was them showing you how they are. Everyone knows my favorite piece of advice from Sister Maya Angelou; When someone tells you about themself – believe them. So you don’t forget because you need to remember so that you 1) Place them in the appropriate category in your life and 2) Know how to deal with them.I had a disagreement with an associate who was well on the way to becoming a friend. I have lots of disagreements in life, especially with my friends. It’s what bonds some of us. But this particular person lashed out in a very harsh way to show their discord. Hit below the belt even.Example of hitting below the belt: “No wonder your marriage failed. You’re such a bitch.”Now while whomever you’re talking to may be a bitch, you’ve gone too far by attacking them in such a manner. You crossed the line.
Well that’s what happened to me and like I said, the heat of the moment may be when a person reveals themself to you. Will this person always resort to taking low blows and digs when we have an argument? Are our commonalities great enough for me to just look over that? Would an apology make things better? (BTW…the person didn’t apologize.) Do you want to build a friendship with someone who is so careless with your feelings?
The really interesting to me is that this person has experienced some low blows from others before so in essence, should know how it feels.
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting
I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying
I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should
